This Refund Policy explains how The Chimney Sweeper handles deposits, cancellations, and refunds for chimney sweeping, inspection, repair, relining, masonry, and related services performed in Cleveland and Greater Cleveland. This policy is governed by the laws of the State of Ohio. By scheduling an appointment, paying a deposit, or accepting a quote, you agree to the terms below.
1. Deposits on Scheduled Jobs
Certain jobs — typically larger repair, relining, or masonry & rebuild projects — require a deposit before we schedule labor, order materials, or reserve a crew.
- Deposit amount: When a deposit is required, it is 50% of the total written estimate for that job.
- Non-refundable: This 50% deposit is non-refundable once paid. It reserves your appointment date, labor, and any materials ordered specifically for your job.
- Remaining balance: The remaining balance is due upon completion of the work, unless otherwise agreed in writing.
- You will always see the deposit amount and job total in writing before being asked to pay it. We do not require a deposit for routine sweeps, inspections, or the Winter Special unless we've told you otherwise in advance.
2. Rescheduling
If you need to move your appointment, contact us as early as possible. Rescheduling to a new date does not forfeit a deposit already paid — the deposit carries forward to the new appointment date for the same job. Repeated last-minute rescheduling may affect availability for the deposited date.
3. Cancellations
If you cancel a job entirely after paying a deposit, the 50% deposit is retained to cover scheduling, labor allocation, and any materials already ordered or fabricated for your specific job (such as a custom-cut chimney cap or ordered liner). This applies whether the cancellation happens before or after work has begun. Any remaining balance beyond the deposit is only owed for work actually performed or materials already delivered.
4. Completed Work
Once a service has been performed — a sweep completed, an inspection conducted, a repair or rebuild finished — that work is not eligible for a refund. If you believe work was not completed as agreed or does not match your written estimate, contact us promptly so we can inspect the work and make it right; see Section 6 below.
5. Free Inspections & No-Cost Offers
Free inspections and no-cost offers described on this website (such as the inspection included with our Winter Special) carry no charge and therefore no deposit or refund applies to them. You are never obligated to purchase repair or additional services after a free inspection.
6. Workmanship Concerns
If you have a concern about the quality of completed work, contact us within a reasonable time so we can send a technician to assess it. We stand behind our workmanship and will work with you in good faith to resolve legitimate issues, which may include a return visit to correct the work, rather than a cash refund, except where required by Ohio law.
7. How Refunds Are Issued
Where a refund is owed under this policy, it will be issued using the same payment method used for the original charge whenever possible, within a reasonable time after the refund is approved.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Refund Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with a revised "Last Updated" date. The policy in effect at the time you pay a deposit or schedule service is the one that applies to that job.
